PRESSED CANE SEATS

The material used on these Magistretti Seats is pressed or sheet cane, which looks the same as a hand caned seat, but is machine woven and installed as a sheet pressed and glued into a groove in the seat frame. This material became available in the early 1900’s as a less costly way to produce a cane seat chair. Although much quicker to install than hand woven cane, it takes great care and patience to remove the old cane from the groove without damaging the frame itself.
